Strengths:
My strengths are as follows: I have been playing guitar for around ten years and have reasonable knowledge of the pop and rock genre, and have achieved a grade 5 standard music qualification. Furthermore, I have had previous experience of working in a group and have a fair amount of practice when it comes to performing in front of an audience. Over the past five years, I have steadily widened my performance knowledge by singing as well as playing, which has given me plenty of time to get comfortable with my range, as well as expand it.
My biggest issue that I have when performing is that I don't always seem to be confident when despite being quite comfortable with playing in front of an audience; this makes engaging with them very difficult. Possibly my biggest weakness is that I have a very poor understanding of music theory, which makes the process of learning new material more complex as I have to look at multiple tutorial videos and tab sheets to get it right. Unlike some of the other students in my class, I am dedicated to one instrument only which makes me less flexible when it comes to performing.
Opportunities:
By choosing this subject, I managed to secure free piano lessons for two years, which I'm hoping, will be the opportunity that I need to increase my range and knowledge of musical instruments. This will also increase my understanding of scales, harmonics and different key changes. This will also be an ideal opportunity to work on my group work in a more in-depth way.
Threats:
I don't really believe that there are many threats in relation to this subject, however, the department has a limited amount of space and equipment and the equipment that we do have, isn't great. Furthermore, I am in the first year of my GCSE's which means I will have a very busy time table, restricting the amount of practice I can do.
